Chana Methi

Horse Gram with Fenugreek in a tasty and spicy mix

Ingredients

1 CupHorse Gram/ Chana Dal
1 Bunch Green Fenugreek Leaves/ Methi Patta
1 LargeFinely Chopped Onion
3 TablespoonsTomato Paste
2 Finely Chopped Green Chillies
1 TablespoonGarlic Paste
1 TablespoonGinger Paste
0.5 CupCooking Oil

Dry Spices

1 TeaspoonCumin Seeds/ Zeera
1 Pinch of Hing
1 TablespoonCoriander Powder
1 TablespoonGaram Masala
1 TeaspoonTurmeric Powder/ Haldi
Salt To Taste

 

Method

  1. Clean wash and chop Fenugreek leaves. Clean and wash dal too.

  2. In a pressure cooker add spinach and 4.5 cups of water and cook it for 10 minutes at high flame.

  3. In a frying pan heat oil and add hing and cumin to it. When cumin turns brown add onions and fry them till they turn golden brown.

  4. Add green chillies, ginger and garlic paste to it. Fry it for 2 minutes and add turmeric, coriander powder, garam masala and salt. Fry it for 1 minute and add tomato paste. Cook it till the masala leaves the oil. Add Fenugreek leaves to it and cook it for 5- 8 minutes while keep stirring it.

  5. Add this masala to the pressure cooker mix it well cook it for another 3-4 minutes at low flame without lid on.

  6. Serve it with rice or chapatti.
