Poha

Salty flaked rice snack with nuts and onions

Ingredients

1 CupPoha (Pressed Rice)
0.25 CupPeanuts
10 Cashew Nuts
2 Finely Chopped Green Chillies
1 TeaspoonMustard Seeds (Rai)
1 TeaspoonSesame Seeds
8 Kari Patta leaves
1 TablespoonLemon Juice
1 TeaspoonSugar
1 TeaspoonTurmeric Powder (Haldi)
0.25 CupCooking Oil
1 MediumLength wise cut onion (optional)
Salt to Taste

Garnish

0.25 CupFinely Chopped Coriander leaves

 

Method

  1. In a pan heat the oil and add mustard seeds and sesame seeds when they start crackling add pea nuts and cashew nuts and cook them at low heat. When they turn light brown add onions and Kari Patta and fry them.

  2. Now add green chili, salt, turmeric powder salt sugar and lemon juice and mix it well and cook it for 1 minute.

  3. Now take pressed rice in a sieve and wash it thoroughly and add in it to the pan mix it and cook for another one minute and garnish it with green coriander leaves and serve it.

In market Poha comes in three thicknesses soft, medium thick and thick. To make Poha I always prefer to buy Poha with medium thickness. You can also buy thick one but wash it before you start cooking it so it gets soft. Always wash it in a sieve so the extra water rinse out itself .
