Urad Dal Khichadi

Healthy Black Gram and Rice dish

Serving 4-6 persons

1 CupSplit Urad Dal With Husk
1 CupRegular Thick Rice (No basmati)
1 TeaspoonZeera (Cumin Seeds)
1 TeaspoonGaram Masala
1 TablespoonCoriander Powder
2 Finely chopped green chillies or to taste
1 TeaspoonGarlic Paste
1 TeaspoonGinger Paste
3 TablespoonsCooking Oil (Of Your Choice)
0.5 TeaspoonTurmeric Powder (Haldi) Optional
6 CupsWater
Salt To Taste



  1. Clean and wash rice and dal separately.

  2. In a pressure cooker heat oil add cumin seeds. When cumin change color add garlic ginger and green chilies. Fry it for 2 minutes at low flame.

  3. Add turmeric, garam masala, salt and coriander powder fry it for another 1 minute.

  4. Add dal , rice and water close the pressure cooker and cook for 10 minutes or till 2 whistle. Remove the cooker from the flame.

  5. Serve it hot with yogurt or with clarified butter (Desi Ghee).
