Yam Masala

Yam cooked with tasty spices

Serving 4-5 persons

1 PoundYam/Suran
1 LargeFinely Chopped Onion
3 TablespoonsTomato Paste
1 TablespoonGinger Paste
1 TeaspoonGarlic Paste
2 CupsCooking oil for frying

Dry Spices

1 TeaspoonCumin Seeds/ Zeera
1 Pinches of Hing
1 TablespoonCoriander Powder
1 TeaspoonGaram Masala
1 TeaspoonTurmeric Powder/ Haldi
Salt To Taste



  1. Peel and cut Suran in small cubes soak it in boiling salted water for 10 minutes strain it and dry it.

  2. Heat oil in an skillet when it is simmering hot fry yam in it.

  3. In a pan heat oil and add hing to it then add cumin seeds to it. When they turn light brown add onions. Fry then till it turns brown.

  4. Then add green chillies, ginger and garlic paste to it fry it for another 2-3 minutes then add all the dry spices to it. Fry it for another 2 minutes.

  5. Then add tomato paste to it fry it for 3-4 minutes and keep stirring it. Add half cup of water and cook it for another 1 minute then add yam to it.

  6. Stir it well cook it for another 2-3 minutes at medium flame and remove it from the flame garnish it with coriander leaves.

  7. Serve it with parantha or chapatti.
